The Myanmar military junta carried out an airstrike near the gas pipelines transporting natural gas from the Tanintharyi offshore to the Nat Ein Taung area on the Thai-Myanmar border on the afternoon of November 11.
Local residents stated that the bombs were dropped by a Y-12 aircraft approximately 300 feet from Zone E3, an area designated by the pipeline project boundaries near Kaleinaung Town in Yephyu Township.
The bombing resulted in the death of Ma Chit Sanoe, a 19-year-old woman from Kyauk Lone Gyi Village, located near the affected area. She was hit by bomb fragments and suffered a fractured skull, according to photographic evidence and accounts from villagers.
“They came and bombed without any fighting going on,” said Pado Saw Eh Na, Secretary of the Karen National Union (KNU), Myeik-Dawei District.
Resistance forces noted that military activity had been quiet since mid-September on the Kyauk Pon border road leading up Nat Ein Taung and the Kaleinaung section of the Ye-Dawei highway.
The military junta previously carried out an aerial bombing on villages near Ya Phue village, close to Kaleinaung town, in March 2024.
According to a statement from Justice For Myanmar (JFM), the Zawtika Project (M1, M11 Blocks) in the offshore Gulf of Mottama (Tanintharyi) is extracting gas by the ATL company, while the Yadana Project (M5, M6 Blocks) is being extracted by the MGTC company.
The gas is then transported via pipeline through the Tanintharyi Region to Thailand.
